THE NEW DEVELOPMENT

In a climate where escalating house prices lead to people being priced out of the property market, Suffolk Heritage Housing Association, member of Flagship Housing Group, has completed a fine development of 10 Shared Ownership homes at Cathedral Meadows in Bury St Edmunds.

These much needed homes are available on a part sale, part rent basis for key workers who are registered on the West Suffolk Housing Register.

Key workers have the opportunity to purchase a 50% stake in their home, with the remaining 50% share being retained by Suffolk Heritage and rented to the resident. There is opportunity for additional shares to be purchased in the future.

The £1 .2milIion scheme was completed in April and received £220,000 in social housing grant from The Housing Corporation.

Through close partnership working with St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Lovell, Last and Tricker Partnerships, Oxbury & Company and other partners, we have developed a high quality scheme comprising four two bedroom houses and six two bedroom flats for Key Workers who are registered on the West Suffolk Housing Register.

and very well done Lovell's!     Here is our nomination for you for 2005

Cathedral Meadows Residents’ Association, Bury St Edmunds

Nomination for a Bury Society Award 2005

This residents association would like to nominate the new Shared Ownership Homes development for a  Bury Society  Award for its very good design. We understand the homes will be available to local people on the housing register as shared ownership homes  on a sale/part rent basis.

The scheme was  developed by Suffolk Heritage Housing Society in 2003, working in partnership with St Edmundsbury District Council and the contractors Lovell Partnership .

We would certainly  like to commend the excellence of the builders Lovells.  The new housing development has been very close to many of the properties on Cathedral Meadows but there have been hardly any complaints from any residents regarding any personal conflict while the construction has been underway.

The Shared Ownership Homes consists of four houses and six two  bedroom flats. Their interior and exterior designs look very good and will be completed by Friday April 29th.  Another very positive development initiative is that it has been insisted that all the disposal bins are stored behind fences and are not lying across all the roadways!

It certainly deserves an award!                    Brian Cash   Chair of Residents’ Association
